A Week in the Sporades

Island-hoppingFamiliesCouplesBest Beaches

A week across the Sporades: three nights on Skiathos for the beaches, two on Skopelos for the villages and the pines, then south to Alonissos and the marine park. Short ferries, no airports after the first one, and a different island character every two days.

Day by day

  1. 01

Fly into Skiathos and settle into the town

Fly to JSI and walk the old harbour, the Bourtzi peninsula and the lanes behind. Eat on the waterfront.

  2. 02

    The south coast by bus

The island bus runs the whole south coast. Get off at Koukounaries, then walk to the far end where the sand narrows and the crowd thins.

  3. 03

Lalaria by boat, then the town

Morning boat to the white cliffs at the north end. Check the wind before you book — the north coast is exposed.

  4. 04

Ferry to Skopelos and up to the chora

Thirty minutes by ferry. Climb to the top of the chora in the evening for the view over the harbour.

  5. 05

    The west-coast beaches

Hire a car or scooter. Kastani for sand and a beach bar, Milia for pebbles, deep water and quiet.

  6. 06

    Glossa and the north

Drive up for the widest view on the island and the chapel of Agios Ioannis Kastri a short walk from the road.

  7. 07

South to Alonissos: the port, the park and the old chora

Hydrofoil south, boat trip to the uninhabited islands in the morning, dinner in the old Chora above the port. Stay the night if you can.
