Koukounaries Beach

The Verdict

The most famous beach in the Sporades: a long crescent of sand with a pine forest behind it and a protected wetland inside it.

Why go

Koukounaries is a long sandy beach with a dense pine forest immediately behind the sand and the Strofilia lagoon, a protected wetland, in the middle of the trees. It is organised, it is crowded, and the bus from Skiathos Town stops on the road above, which means you can swim here without a car. Walk to the far end, where the sand narrows and the crowd thins out, and look back at the pines.
