Editorial standards
How we judge, and what we verify.
Fit beats fame
We don't treat every destination as equally worthwhile, and we don't recommend places merely because they're famous or merely because they're obscure. A place earns space here because it suits a real traveler.
The Verdict
Every significant entity gets a clear editorial judgment — specific, useful, and comfortable making a recommendation. We never write that a place “offers something for every type of traveler.”
Skip If
Telling you when a place is wrong for you is as valuable as telling you when it's right. Crowds, car requirements, ferry dependency, seasonality and budget all matter.
Verification
Volatile information — ferry routes, train service, opening hours, prices, seasonal closures — is treated as verified, not permanent. Each carries a verification level and a last-verified date. Always confirm transport before you book.
Research, not fabrication
We never fabricate firsthand experience. Recommendations are built from authoritative sources, official institutions, operators and cross-source research, then judged editorially. Fact is separated from opinion.
No commercial influence on recommendations
Commercial opportunity never determines editorial recommendation. Where tours or bookings appear, they sit below the editorial answer — never above it.
