The Verdict

A village dropped into a field of giant granite spheres — the strangest landscape in the Cyclades.

Why go

Volax sits on a bare plateau covered in smooth granite boulders, some the size of houses, which look as though they were placed there by hand. The village is tiny and known for basket-weaving, and the plateau around it is a maze of paths, dry stone walls and rocks. Half an hour from Chora, and worth the detour for the geology alone.
