The Verdict

A marble and white village stepping down a green slope on the west side of Tinos, with the sea directly below.

Why go

Kardiani is built down the hillside in terraces, which means stairs instead of streets and a view of the Aegean from almost every doorway. It is small, largely untouched and unhurried, with one taverna and a spring in the square. The descent from the road above, through arched passages and under lemon trees, is the point of the visit.
