Platis Gialos

The Verdict

Not the island's most beautiful beach, but the most useful one. Come by bus, eat at the water, swim all afternoon.

Why go

Sifnos beaches are mostly small coves reached by car, and Platis Gialos is the exception: a long sweep of sand with a shallow shelf that suits families, tamarisk shade at the back, and tavernas within a few steps. Buses run from Apollonia, which means you can drink at lunch and still get home. It is also the boat point for trips to the harder-to-reach southern beaches.

The easiest long beach on Sifnos: sand, shallow water, tavernas at the back and a bus from Apollonia.
