Lefkes

The Verdict

Where Paros stops being a beach island and becomes a mountain one. Come up for an afternoon, or stay if you want the island without the harbour.

Why go

The lanes are paved in marble, the village sits in a fold of the hills with olive terraces falling away below it, and the old Byzantine path to Prodromos starts at the edge of town and runs downhill through the middle of the island. It is fifteen minutes from the beaches and feels like a different island. Eat lunch here, walk part of the path, and drive back over the ridge.
