Tsagarada

The Verdict

A stone village in the chestnut forest with a square under plane trees big enough to shade a hundred tables.

Why go

Tsagarada sits in the chestnut and beech forest about halfway along the Pelion peninsula: grey stone houses with slate roofs, cobbled streets, and a square under plane trees that shade the taverna tables beneath. From it the road drops east to the beaches at Mylopotamos and Fakistra in twenty minutes and west to the church of Agia Paraskevi with its enormous plane tree. It is the best base in Pelion if you want forest and sea in the same day.
