The Sea Caves of Paxos

The Verdict

A row of sea caves on the west coast that you visit by boat, with the light coming up blue through the water inside the largest.

Why go

The west coast of Paxos is a wall of limestone with caves cut into it, the largest at Ypapanti, where a boat can go right inside and the light comes up blue from below. Trips run from Gaios and Lakka in season and take two or three hours, usually with a stop to swim at Antipaxos on the way back. Choose a calm morning: the west coast is exposed when there is any wind in it.
