The broad golden sand and sunbeds of Elia beach on Mykonos.

Elia Beach

The Verdict

The best of the south-coast beaches for a full day: sand, clear water, and enough space to get away from the rows of umbrellas.

Why go

Elia is long, sandy and sheltered, which is why it stays swimmable when the north-coast beaches are windswept, and the far end is quieter than the organised middle. Buses and boats both reach it, so you can leave the car behind. Expect beach clubs, watersports and music in the middle; walk ten minutes north for the same water without them.

A broad south-coast beach of golden sand, with sunbeds along the back and enough length to escape them.
