Flat limestone swimming platforms and bathing steps at the water's edge on Hydra.

Spilia & Hydroneta

The Verdict

Hydra's swimming is rock, not sand, and this is where the town does it: a ladder, deep clear water and a bar above the rocks.

Why go

Spilia is the rocks directly under the town's cliff, with a small cave and a ladder into deep water; Hydroneta is the sunbathing platform next door, where the diving is straight off the edge. Neither is a beach, both are excellent, and they are a five-minute walk from the harbour. Come late afternoon when the cliff gives shade, and swim across to the far side for the clearest water.
