The Church of Panagia

The Verdict

A whitewashed church on a rock above Chora, reached by a zigzag path, with the best view in the Cyclades to show for it.

Why go

The path up from Chora is paved, steep and switches back and forth, and takes about twenty minutes, which is enough to keep most people away at sunset, when the light on the cliffs and across to Milos and Sikinos is the reason to be there. The church itself is small and plain. The festival on 15 August fills the path and the village below it.
