Lefkada

The Verdict
The Ionian island you can drive to: white cliffs and turquoise water on one coast, a lagoon town and green mountains on the other.
Why go
Lefkada is joined to the mainland by a causeway, so you drive onto it, and the island splits in two. The west coast is a line of white cliffs and beaches — Porto Katsiki, Egremni, Kathisma — where the water is the colour people fly to Greece for; the east coast and the lagoon are calm, green and far less visited. Lefkada Town is a proper town of wooden houses with a long waterfront, and the mountain villages inland give the island a life beyond the beaches.
Understand the place
The fourth largest Ionian island and the only one reached by road, with the famous west-coast beaches at Porto Katsiki and Egremni.
