Poros Town
Photo: Greece Field Guide
The Verdict
A waterfront of ochre arcades on a channel so narrow the far shore feels like part of the town.
Why go
Poros Town runs along the west side of the island facing the mainland, with arcaded houses in ochre and white, a clock tower on the hill above it and a waterfront of cafés and tavernas that fills at dusk. Because the strait is so narrow, the town feels as though it belongs to both shores, and the little car ferry from Galatas runs all day. Walk up to the clock tower for the view, then out along the coast road towards the Russian Bay.
Understand the place
The harbour of Poros, built along a narrow strait with a clock tower on the hill and the Peloponnese a few hundred metres away.
