The Verdict

The harbour of Ikaria: a shallow bay, a quay of tavernas, the ferry, and the springs a short drive up the coast.

Why go

Agios Kirykos is the practical centre of Ikaria: the ferry docks here, the buses start here, and the waterfront runs on tavernas and small hotels. It is a quiet town with a shallow sandy bay in the middle of it, the old spa buildings at Therma a short drive north, and the road south to the beaches at Kerame and Faros. Not beautiful exactly, but comfortable, and the place to be if you want to arrive and not drive far.
