The Verdict

A pine-covered island town a few hundred metres across a strait from the mainland — small, green and much quieter than its neighbours.

Why go

Poros is really two islands joined by a bridge, with the town on the southern one and the pine forest of Kalavria behind it. The strait between Poros Town and Galatas is only a few hundred metres wide, which gives the harbour its particular look: boats moored in a channel you could almost swim, and pines coming down to the water on both sides. It is an island to walk and cycle — the coast road to Russian Bay and Love Bay is the best of it, and hiring a small boat for an hour is money well spent.
