Little Venice

The Verdict

Balconies over the water and the loudest sunset crowd on the island. Worth one drink, not a whole evening.

Why go

The houses were built out over the sea on the sheltered west side, and the balconies of the bars now sit directly above the water. It is genuinely lovely for twenty minutes and then it is a crush. Take a drink early, before the sunset crowd arrives, then walk the five minutes round the headland to the windmills for the same view with space to breathe.

Understand the place

The strip of old town where houses hang directly over the water, with the sun setting straight into the sea beyond them.
